Spring pollen makes its annual appearance ... everywhere

The first day of Spring is Wednesday, and a sure sign of it is not just in the air, but pretty much everywhere else, now too.
We're talking about pollen.
"I always know it's Spring in East Texas when the azaleas are blooming, the grass begins to really green up and wafts of pollen are everywhere," said James Wilhite of Wilhite Landscaping and Lawn Care. "Everybody gets 'blooming-itis.' 'Somebody else is in bloom and I'm not.' So 'blooming-itis' is good, however when the bloom comes, so does the pollen."
KETK's own Scott Chesner says the pollen count for trees Monday was very high.
"When it's in that high category, anybody with sensitivity to those pollens has symptoms," he said.
Not only does it do a number on your allergies, it also brings a mess on the ground, on your house and the car.
For Edward Starks, that's a good thing.
"We usually get a big rush of people this time of year until we get a big rain and it washes the stuff off," Starks said, who owns Ed's Car Wash in Tyler.
He says he waits all year for "pollen season" because he sees business go up by about 30 percent.
"Come see us and we'll take care of all your pollen needs!" Starks said with a laugh.
