Tyler, TX (KETK) — February showers, bring March flowers? Well, spring is on the way, which means the dreaded allergy season is right around the corner.
Allergy season is welcomed in by coughing, sneezing, and watery eyes. To make matters worse, there is no permanent cure for relief. However, prevention is possible. KETK spoke with Kinsey Pharmacist Brad Martin, who said, "You know you're going to be exposed, so do the best you can. Wear a mask if you're out there gardening or mowing the lawn and you have allergies. You can always talk to your doctor there are some prescription allergy medications".
Experts say East Texans are affected by the large amounts of pollen from vegetation. We spoke with James Wilhite from Wilhite Landscaping, who said, "Here in East Texas we do have a significant pollen problem just because the amount of trees we have around us". This is largely because of the Pine, Oak, and Cedar trees. These trees will begin pollinating towards the end of March.
More than 55 percent of the nation tests positive for some type of allergen. So if allergies are a problem for you or a loved one, start preparing now. Martin said, "Stay on top of it, because when you do have allergic reactions it produces all that fluid in your sinuses, and it can lead to sinus infections".
