The amount of local debt in Texas has skyrocketed over the past 10 years.

This, according to a report released by Texas State Comptroller Susan Combs this week.

Combs' report shows the tax-supported debt approved by Texas cities increased 126 percent from 2001 to 2011.

That equals out to $27 billion.

County debt went up 131 percent.

Combs is making a plea to local governments.
