It’s that time again.
The State Fair of Texas is almost ready…
And Thursday, the Texas Auto Writers Association gathered for a preview of the biggest auto show in the state.
Now there are a lot of reasons people come to the State Fair. ..rides, attractions…what are they going to fry this year.
But smart shoppers come to find their next car, because whatever you want, they’ve probably got it here.
The day started with the new Ram from Chrysler.
The entire Chrysler organization is on a roll, and Ram CEO Fred Diaz wants to keep it that way.
Next up, was the new Jeep Wrangler Moab package…and the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trail Hawk.
One tasty rumor we picked up is that both Jeep and the Chevrolet Cruze compact will get small diesel engines soon.
At the Dodge stand, the new Dart was the attraction and the sleek compact is based on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, which means it will actually have decent handling.
The new Cadillac ATS was on display, along with a new compact SUV from Buick, the Encore.
Chevrolet showed us, and it’s about time, the new Impala. And it was worth the wait.
And the new Chevy Spark is the smallest car ever to wear the bowtie…and one of the most inexpensive.
Over at Ford, cowboys from the King Ranch pulled the cover off the new F-150.
This added to the gorgeous new Fusion and long overdue restyle of the Escape are just what Ford needed.
The new Avalon was the attraction at the Toyota display, and both Scion and Subaru share the platform for a pair of sleek sports cars, the FRS and BRZ. I know, I can’t keep them straight either.
And it wouldn’t be the State Fair without some just plain goofy machines, like the Texas VW Beetle.
And let’s be honest, nothing says Texas like a German compact.
And Chevy showed us the Sonic Boom. No, those aren’t rocket boosters, they are sound boosters. It is a rolling tinnitus factory.
All in all, a great show, and there are other attractions like old cars, sports cars, model cars and trucks carrying other trucks.
If you can’t find your next ride at the State Fair, I have no other suggestions.
