TYLER — The road blocks are up as projects from the stimulus cash get a green light.

We're getting details on the first road projects starting as a result of the president's stimulus plan. While we're still awaiting a final decision on the $2 billion the state's been given for roads, we're getting a sneak peak at some projects likely to get the thumbs up.

A wider Highway 69 has started construction from Loop 323 past Mineola. Sylvia Doggett moved to Mineola from Dallas four years ago to steer clear of traffic.

Lately, she's seen the same congestion on 69 she saw in Dallas.

"It's been really, really bad," she says.

For months, the Texas Department of Transportation looked into expanding the highway; they just didn't have the cash.

Now, this project was the first to get a go-ahead for stimulus money.

"This gives us a chance to get ahead of where we were," says Larry Krantz with TXDOT.

They've rolled out a list of other projects they think stimulus money should go to. They include sections of Loop 49 and State Highways 149 and 322 in Longview.

Back in mineola — Doggett says she doesn't just want construction to keep up with the growing city, "this is a really bad economy."

She hopes it'll help money to flow through easily as well.

State officials will make more decisions on east texas projects starting thursday.
