Stimulus money not being spent correctly

New details on President Obama's stimulus plan. According to an Associated Press analysis, billions of dollars aren't necessarily going to area bridges and roads that need it most.

According to the AP, the very promise that President Obama made, to spend the money quickly and create jobs, is locking out many struggling communities needing those jobs.

After they reviewed more than 5,500 transportation projects nationwide, this is what the AP says is happening.

Altogether, the government is set to spend 50 percent more per person in areas with the lowest rate of unemployment than it will in communities with the highest.

That's because the money only goes to projects ready to start, otherwise known as shovel ready projects. And struggling communities don't have projects waiting on the shelf because they can't afford the millions of dollars for preparation and plans that often are required.

"The timeline that TXDOT was given to spend the money certainly put a limit on what projects could be developed in that short amount of time," TXDOT spokeperson, Larry Krantz, said.

Krantz also told us that 7 out of the 8 counties in the Tyler district have projects going on. Cherokee County is the only one who does not because he said TXDOT has worked extensively in that county for the past several years already.

What about the stimulus Checks that Obama has been talking about for so long? Are they sent in the right direction or we should question that too?
