Some strong storms could be headed to the Tyler-Longview area tonight. A severe thunderstorm watch is now in effect for the northern half of East Texas until 10 p.m.

A line of strong to severe thunderstorms is moving steadily southward through SE Oklahoma and Central and SW Arkansas. The system should reach the northern counties of East Texas -- the Interstate 30 corridor -- between 6 and 7 p.m. and then the Tyler-Longview area between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m before dissipating tonight.

The main threat from these storms will be brief strong winds of 45-55 mph with some possible gusts up to around 65 mph, frequent lightning and heavy rain. This could cause power outages and tree damage. The heavy rain will generally be welcome, but could cause some brief street flooding as one inch could fall in a short period of time in some areas.

Thunderstorms are expected to end before midnight.
