With the recent death of baseball great Tony Gwynn, more attention is being drawn to the dangers of smokeless tobacco.

Many users are searching for a substitute that'll still give them that kick, but without the dangerous side effects.

Californians Matt Canepa and Patrick Pezet came up with such a substitute back in 2009 when they were studying at Cal Poly.

They started putting coffee grounds in their mouth to keep themselves awake, and thus had the idea to turn those coffee grounds into a smokeless tobacco substitute.

Their San Francisco based business, 'Grinds Coffee Pouches,' has been thriving ever since.

They also had a flood of calls merely 24 hours after Gwynn's death, from many men who said they had to stop dipping.

But it's not just the nicotine that keeps people from quitting, it's the routine of dipping.

"If you're trying our product or anyone else just throw one in when you get that first initial craving because half the battle, believe it or not, is just the habit," said co-founder Pezet.
