With father's day coming up this weekend, it is especially important to watch out for scams and scammers.

From internet scams to door-to-door sales, scam artists will try and reel you in any way they can.
And usually, it's by offering something that is just as unbelievable as it sounds.

It could be the too-good-to-be-true vacation package or the super cheap cell phone. Whatever it may be, if you are weary of the offer the Better Business Bureau advises you do not take that chance.

"The best thing to do is have some type of refusal script," said Olga Modragon, Director of Investigative Services. "When you answer the phone, make sure that you are tough enough to say no if you're not interested,"

The BBB also says to be cautious of who you give your information to and recommends you research the company before you make a purchase.

Call them to be sure someone answers on the other end and sounds credible.

"It's really important that you do your homework before you hand over your money to anybody," said Mechele Mills, President/CEO.

It may not always be easy to spot a scam, but there are certain things you can look out for.

"Door-to-door scams, people saying they're with a particular company or they're there to do handy-work, and asphalt paving is a big one in our area," Mills said.
