Tyler, Texas — To make your next trip to the sun care aisle a little less overwhelming, dermatologists gave KETK a "checklist" of sun screen essentials. First, make sure your next sunscreen has an SPF of 30 and UVA and UVB protection.
Doctors says UVA rays are always present no matter what season are the rays that age your skin. While UVB rays are weaker but can cause skin damage and cancer.
Dr. Jenni Holman, a dermatologist with Dermatology Associates of Tyler says, "Sun screen should go on 30 minutes before you go out. Look on the bottle for that it'll say broad spectrum or UVA, UVB on the label. Heat sweat, water, all degrade sun screens so you need to reapply about every three hours."
