Supporting the families impacted by PTSD in Rusk County

Wednesday, December 4, 2013 - 11:40pm

Two Vietnam veteran's wives in Henderson are reaching out, and offering help to other military families.

Polly Vandeman and Kay Scoggins both have husbands who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, which is why they are starting to form a support group.

On December 10th, at the Church of the Nazarene in Henderson at 9 a.m.., spouses and family of veterans suffering from PTSD are welcome to join them in a group discussion.

Both ladies say this is an opportunity to share their struggles, and give guidance to younger military families.

The conversation will be confidential, but the benefit of just talking to those who understand how difficult it can be, can make coping just a little easier.

Vandeman says they are not professionals, but they are experts in knowing what it's like to live with someone struggling with PTSD, and just want to offer guidance, and support.
