Catcher sent to Royals

The Kansas City Roylas have acquired catcher Matt Treanor from the Texas Rangers for cash.

Treanor is expected to join the Royals Monday for their home
game against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Rangers' camp is in nearby Scottsdale.

The 35-year-old Treanor played in a career-high 82 games for
Texas last season and hit .211 with five homers and 27 RBIs. He
homered against the Yankees in the American League championship series.

The Royals selected Treanor in the fourth round of the 1994
draft and traded him to the Marlins in 1997.

In seven big league seasons with Florida, Detroit and Texas,
Treanor is batting .227 with 13 homers and 97 RBIs.

Treanor is married to two-time gold medal beach volleyball
player Misty May-Treanor.
