Suspect in fatal Longview shooting faces tougher punishment
Longview, TX (Longview News-Journal) — Gregg County prosecutors will seek an increased punishment for a Longview man accused of fatally shooting a woman in her home in November.
Gregg County Assistant District Attorney Debbie Garrett filed paperwork indicating that prosecutors would seek a sentence “no less than five years and no more than 99 years or life” in the case against Byron Houston, charged in the shooting death of Barbara Hudson on Nov. 17 during a form of Russian roulette.
According to the criminal complaint filed by investigators in his arrest, Houston loaded one bullet into a revolver, spun the cylinder and pulled the trigger, shooting the 39-year-old woman in the back.
Houston told police he didn’t think the bullet was in line to fire, according to court documents.
