Tyler police confirm Christopher Summerville has been released from a local hospital.

Summerville was arrested Friday after shooting Smith County Deputy Josh Caulkins in the chest, who was trying to serve him a warrant. Caulkins was wearing a vest and received only minor injuries. 

Summerville is currently being held in the Smith County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

TYLER — Smith County Sheriff's officials say Jeffery Andrysiak is also charged with manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance.

Andrysiak is being held on a $500,000 bond.

Tyler police were called to a shooting at The Arbors Apartments on Chimney Rock Road in Tyler around midnight.

U.S. Marshals were serving a warrant in apartment 311 where a wanted man, Christopher Summerville, was staying. Summerville was wanted for failing to register as a sex offender.

Marshals were taking a woman out of the apartment when a shot was fired at the front door from inside the apartment. The bullet struck Smith County Deputy Josh Caulkins in the chest, but he was not critically injured because of a bullet-proof vest. The suspect fired a second shot that struck a neighbor's apartment door. Agents then fired back, and were able to arrest three suspects without harm.

Deputy Caulkins was transported to East Texas Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The three people in the apartment have been identified as:

Christopher Summerville, 26 of Tyler

Jeffery Andrysiak, 31 of Tyler.

Kara Adams-Hanley, 29 of Tyler.

Kara Adams-Hanley, 29 of Tyler.

At this time Christopher Summerville is being held on the outstanding warrant, Jeffery Andrysiak is being held on possession of a controlled substance and Kara Adams was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

This case remains under investigation.

KETK was first on the scene when United States Marshals were serving an arrest warrant to a resident at the Arbors on Chimney Rock Apartments on Chimney Rock Drive in Tyler Thursday night.

Smith County sheriff deputies joined as backup.

When officers knocked on the door to identify themselves, the suspect opened fire on the officers.

One officer was hit in the chest. His name is not being released at this time.

According to witnesses at the scene, the officer was appeared to be fine and was taken to a local hospital.

Authorities say the officer was wearing a bullet-proof vest.

They also tell us the suspect was taken into custody after officers returned fire at the apartment complex.

The two individuals were detained, and one suspect was taken into custody.
