UPDATE: Troup Post Office device found was hoax

ATF agent Tom Crowley confirms the device found at the Troup Post Office Thursday was a hoax device. The device did have parts resembling that of a pipe bomb, but was not dangerous.

TYLER - Postal Inspector Amanda McMurrey confirms a device similar to a pipe bomb was found outside the Troup Post Office Thursday afternoon.

Officials say the Troup post master found the device while unloading the collection box. He then made a call for help. FBI and Alcohol, Tobacco, Explosives and Firearms officials arrived within 15 to 20 minutes.

The ATF and postal inspectors have not yet removed the device.

A bomb squad is currently on the way from Dallas.

Officials say the following all leads, but have no suspects in mind.

Inspector McMurrey says postal workers are being advised to take extra precaution when removing mail.
