Lindale, Tx (KETK) — Looking for something to do with the kids this weekend?
Why don't you take them hunting!
Texas Parks and Wildlife all over the state hold a youth hunt.
But, they just started it at the Old Sabine River Bottom in Lindale.
This weekend, parents and their kids can experience the joy of hunting together as a family, for free.
This is for kids only ages 8 to 16, and they must have a supervisor 18 or older.
"The kids that are here are excited to get out into the woods and really enjoy what their doing they get to spend time with mom or dad out in the woods," said Farrell.
Farrell said hunters all over the country are declining.
"We need to recruit more hunters and show them the safe and right way to do it."
This hunt is a way to encourage the next generation to continue this sport.
"This is an opportunity to get kids out in the woods," said Farrell.
"I think it's a great opportunity for the kids to get outside and enjoy the outdoors and share the love and passion for the outdoors and get them recruited into the sport," said Biologist Scott Bosworth.
Bosworth is teaching his two kids how to hunt.
He said it's very important for younger kids to learn how to hunt these days.
"Hunters are at the forefront of conservation more kids we recruit into the sport the better off wildlife is throughout the nation."
