Cost to taxpayers: 68 billion
Tyler — 44-million people in this country are getting food stamps. That's twice the number of people receiving food stamps as in 2007.
All those free meals carry a price tag of: $68-billion to taxpayers. How do East Texans think all the hand-outs can be curbed?

Reports show lower wages combined with higher gas and food prices is creating an atmosphere of economic confusion
Many are working but their employer does not pay enough to keep up with the cost of living. Not everyone wo receives food stamps is unemployed. Many of the State employees in Texas receive food stamp assistance because of such low pay.
Don't blame the co's for minimum wage jobs. That is what the economy is dictating right now. Between Obama's anti-business policies , the unemployment it is causing & the over abundance of illegal immigrants taking jobs at reduced wages, the going market wage has been reduced to where many jobs are paying minimum wage or less than they should. If, as you suggest, these co's pay more taxes, then you will cause more co's to go out of business and cause more unemployment & drive wages down further
The companies could reduce what the share holders receive and the CEO bonus checks and raise the wages of the workers with the huge profits and record tax cuts they have received over the last 12 years.
Obama could just pass a law banning profits! That's what he want's anyway. These Co's exist to make a profit for their shareholders. That's what they call BUSINESS! If the shareholders don't make money, they won't invest in the Co. and the Co. will go out of business and all those jobs will be lost. CEOs and the executives in the company make money and bonuses when the company makes money for the shareholders. It's called CAPITALISM. The other option is socialism, the goal of Obama & the left.
None of these companies, corporations or shareholders would make a profit if not FOR THE WORKERS AKA EMPLOYEES.
OK, and none of these WORKERS AKA EMPLOYEES would have jobs if it wasn't for the companies, corporations, and shareholders. What's your point? When people have jobs because companies hire them it's called capitalism. When all the jobs are created by the govenment it's called socialism and we've all seen how well that works. USSR, Cuba, all the Eastern Bloc countries, where are they now? Oh, that's right, socialist govenments are doomed to go broke and fail. That's the direction we're heading.
That is why the huge profits should be shared equaly. Nothing wrong with making a profit but all responsible for the profits should reep a fair portion of the profits. You will then say why the workers, theyreceive a pay check and I say so does the CEO so why does the CEO receive more of the profits by way of huge bonuses and not the front line workers?
You would make Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels proud. A line right out of the socialist agenda. Share equally in the profits. Well, what if I work harder than you, do we still deserve the same pay? What if my job requires more skills than yours? What if my job requires more education? What if I put in 25 years of 14 hours days, 6 days a week and you do your 40? That may work in a socialist society (oh wait, socialist govenments crumble), but it's not capitalism.
Read Animal Farm and learn what a socialist is. Stop being a sheep for the communist Republican party.
You might want to look that over again along with The Communist Manifesto and the Das Kapital which I'm sure are both on your nightstand where a bible should be. I still haven't figured out if you are a true socialist believer or whether you just believe what you are told like the Soviets did for 70+ years. I'm thinking that you're brainwashed from this stuff because it would be hard to believe that anybody would really believe this stuff on their own, unless there was a serious mental defect...
My point is, why should all taxpayers be paying to make up the differance in what theses companies are paying and what they should be paying because of their employees who receive welfare due to low pay.
And if I know that I'll get paid the same as everyone else in the company, why should I try harder? If we got rid of the entitlements and the restrictions on companies, the economy would turn around and the market would dictate higher rates and benefits.
Goes to show how stupid you are. Every company has a career ladder where everyone does not earn the same and is considered advancement in the company. The lowest paid position in all companies should be a wage or salary that pays enough to keep their employees OFF OF THE GOVERNMENT (TAX PAYERS) DOLL AND IS INCREASED BASED ON THE FACTORS THAT GOVERN THEIR CAREER LADDER ADVANCMENTS.
But you just said earlier that we should all share the profits equally. So where is the career ladder? See, even you can't believe your own socialist ramblings. It has never and will never work except in a utopian society that can never exist. Get your head out of your posterior and join the real world. Besides, even if you did make more money for being higher up, according to Obama's ideas, the gov't would take that extra $ and give it to the people that make less. Redistribution, right?
This program should be eliminated from the tax payer's burden. Most of the people that are on food stamps are illegal or on drugs. Everytime you go to the store, you see these people with buggies full of junk food and no healthy stuff at all. Wake up people. The time to start fighting for what we believe in has arrived. Thanx
It's ok if they don't eat healthy food because they'll have free health insurance that we have to pay for.

Simple preventative measures. For starters, a real sex ed program. Secondly, free sterilization surgery for anyone who wants one.
Can be curbed.............random drug tests on recipients. I do not know how this would work, but think it is something to think about. Too many people are abusing the system. Driving nice cars, designer clothes and enough jewelry to drag you down. So, where is the money for all this coming from?..............
Florida is trying to do that now with govenment subsidies. All the liberals are screaming that it's not fair. Even McDonald's drug tests as a condition of employment. Regardless of how people feel about this, why should we give handouts to drug users? If they have money for drugs, they could use it for food. Get off the drugs or get off the government teat. We're not saying that people on food stamps are druggies, we're just saying that if they are, we're not going to give them freebies.
Yeah, when you follow someone out of WalMart or the grocery store where they just used food stamps and they get into an Escalade, something's wrong. We need to go back to "Workfare." Many of these people who are legitimately using food stamps or other government assistance would rather be working and earning a living. Those that are milking the system and mooching off of our tax money will be forced to earn their money or get off the system. Drug testing should be mandatory, too.
