Arizona latest to have law allowing bible used in western history class
Tyler — Tuesday, Governor Jan Brewer of Arizona signed into law a bill creating a course for both public and charter high school students that teaches the bible and its role in western culture.
The course would be taught from a historical aspect only but do we need to keep it "PC" in our schools?
Is it best to leave the bible out of the classroom? East Texans talk-back on the question with our newspartner: KTBB and host Garth Maier.

I think that all schools should have a bible study before school starts in the morning. The high school i went to did.
The question is rather moot. Should the Bible be taught in the classroom? The Bible was taught in the classrooms through the McGuffey reader and look at what it brought about. For instance, just compare history of early America, the Constitution, The Bill of Rights, and the general conduct of the citizenry with the way things are going today. We are looking at the result of over three generations without God, the preposterous idea that God should be out of everything. May God help us!
Snydergal, join the ranks of the ignorant and unuinformed! If you read the book of mormon (which I have) you will find that most, if not all of it is taken from the KJV of the bible, just re-arranged. The Torah, used by Jews is simply the first five books of the old testament. The Koran is simply a book about Moses which actually teaches about his (Moses') existance. Did you know that there is a cult in Japan that actually believes in penis worship. You can study it online. SHOULD WE TEACH THAT?
To all those who say that ALL religions should be taught if any at all. Are you so uneducated that you are unable to discern the genuine from the fake? I suppose that if I gave you a bowl of real fruit and a bowl of plastic replica fruit, you would have to eat both complete bowls to know which is real. People such as yourselves, are the reason our children are so unschooled in God's Religion.
And by the way, you will be able to argue your point with God Himself when you meet Him. And you WILL.
Grady - you are sadly misguided and misinformed. God's word is not to be used as a discipline promoter in schools, it should be used, as intended to lead one to forgiveness and salvation of the soul.
When I was in school in the UK 55-60 yrs ago the bible was taught from a historical and geographical perspective. It was never presented with doctrines of any kind. That was useful to me in later life when I came to study the bible to find God Himself. Howard, you are pathetic heritic. Stop it!...
Love the idea. Western literature and culture is replete with biblical allusions. At one time the mark of an educated person was a knowledge of the Bible. And who doesn't love other sacred works as well? :-) The aphorisms and reflections of men of the past are humbling, intriguing, and engrossing. They encourage us to look at life in a historical context ("wow! Confusious said that? That's what I feel, and that was x years ago!") and to be a little more circumspect about our brief lives.
The problem is that our beloved Texas legislature will never allow an academic approach to biblical studies. They would probably try to mandate the such a course be taught by the local Assembly of God/Church of Christ/Fundie Bible Church pastor ONLY.
I totally agree with snydergal and Freedom. If you teach one "holy book", you must teach them all. They should all be taught as myths, which is what they are.
I agree with snydergal. If you teach the bible from a historical (read non-religious) standpoint, you must include all others. If this is not about religion, then people shouldn't have a problem with the Koran, or the Talmud, or the Bhagavad Gita, or the Tao-te-ching - strictly from a historical perspective, of course.
we need the bible in the classroom, our troubles only started with the removable of the bible from the classroom, prayer needs to be reinstated also.
