East Texans offer their own theories as to why democrats seem to be against stopping illegal immigration
Tyler — Democrats in the Senate are preparing a backup plan to thwart sweeping immigration laws in Arizona and other states if the nation's top court supports the hotly debated measures.
Why are democrats so opposed to stemming the tide of illegals in this country? East Texans answer-back to our news partner: KTBB and host Garth Maier.

I completely agree with sheriff Joe and wish Texas would do more to stop and reverse the flow of illegals.
A lot of them have taken up living in old shacks and trailer houses of the beaten path around here and raising farm animals at times they run free and get on other peoples property. On a couple of occasions on the land next to my son's house two horses have starved to death and laid rotting for over a week before the illeagles did anything with them. Nothing done by local law when notified.
THERE IS NO STATE LAW OR FEDERAL LAW THAT REQUIRES ANY CITIZEN TO HAVE AN ID TO BE A CITIZEN. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN ID AND NOT DRIVING ALL YOU ARE REQUIRED TO DO BY STATE AND FEDERAL LAW IS GIVE YOUR NAME AND DOB AND YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ANSWER ANY OTHER QUESTIONS THE COPS HAVE FOR YOU. 4TH AND 5TH AMENDMENT...U.S. CONSTITUTION
I presume its because they have thought this thru and realize that it will either be applied with racial and ethnic bias or almost everyone they stop will go to jail. Have any of those who cheer for this type of law considered whether THEY can, if stopped, prove they are a citizen? There are only 3 legally sufficient means of proof; a certified copy of your birth certificate with a raised seal, a passport, or naturalization papers. NOTHING else is good enough.
Franc, what you say is nothing but a LIE. A simple driver's license is proof enough, as someone must present proof of lawful residence in order to obtain a drivers license. A social security card would also suffice. Anybody who fails to present a valid form of ID supporting legal residence will merely be detained while a background investigation is completed to determine said person's citizenship status.
What a stupid comment. Not everyone drives and there is no , let me repeat that NO state or Federal law that requires any citizen to have an ID to be a citizen. An officer can only detain a person for a short period of time as ruled on by the U.S. Supreme court prior to this case and in accordance to the U. S. Constitution.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. This was written by Franklin, within quotation marks but is generally accept as his original thought, sometime shortly before February 17, 1775 as part of his notes for a proposition at the Pennsylvania Assembly, as published in Memoirs of the life and writings of Benjamin Franklin (1818).
SO WHICH OF YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS AND WHICH LIBERTIES ARE YOU WILLING TO GIVE UP?
I will gladly present proof of citizenship to any lawful authority that ask for it. I am more than willing to make that sacrifice(I mean really, how hard is it to pull out a driver's license?), when illegal immigrationis costing this country hundreds of millions of dollars a year. You need to pull your headout of your arse and realize this country has a major problem with illegal immigration
according to our Texas republican Comptroller , the state of Texas receives more in fees and taxes from illegal immigrants than what Texas spends on them. She reported that to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Do a little thinking and research for yourself and get away from faux and rush. I hope you have a brain of your own
No scoo the Dems oppose the violation of citizens Constitutional and civil rigts. It is a FACT that citizens of the U.S. will get cought up in the attempts of the AZ law enforcement to do their jobs and that is why AZ law enforcement officials are against this law not just the DEMS. I think that those who do the jobs of enforcement know more about it than you or I even more than the AZ Republican legislature and Governor.
The goal to demoralize America, a hate for American sovereignty and Constitution, take your pick.
There are no simplistic answers to illegal immigration, however ethnic profiling a la the AZ law is NOT the answer as the tragic demise of Travon Martin illustrates. The best thing for the US is a strong job market to our south, however the current Walmart scandal illustrates the difficulty with that. Until then, to background check people entering the US, we should have a guest worker status and that, IMHO, is something Democrats would support.
The democrats oppose the stemming of illegals, for the same reason they oppose the photo ID requirement for casting a vote. They want more votes, even if the voters are law breakers. After all, who wouldn't vote for the democrats, who will give them everything for free.
