Board rejects civil war flag on specialty plates

Texas drivers won't be able to put confederate license plates on their vehicles after a state board **unanimously rejected the proposed design Thursday

Proponents believe the flag is a symbol to honor all soldiers who fought in the Civil War. But civil rights organizations consider the battle flag objectionable.

Would East Texans line-up to put the confederate flag plates on their vehicle?

We will have an SCV plate. The only thing the PC idiots on the board did was cost the taxpayers a legal bill fighting a case the state will lose. Of the 9 other states that currently offer an SCV plate to their citizens, 3 attempted to go the politically correct route and deny the plates, and all 3 lost their cases in court. The First Amendment trumps all political correctness. Attempting to discuss an accurate view of history here is a waste of time. The license plates are coming.

That's fine. Then we will have our Mexican, French, and Spanish flag plates too. Next time you rant about someone flying a Mexican flag or speaking Spanish, remember your post here and your love of the 1st Amendment. Texas' ties to Mexico are very deep.

Agreed, we must recognize the banner as part of our history. The problem is the KKK used it as a banner to terrorize and attack former slaves and other non-anglos. It now stands, at least in part, as a racist symbol, probably as much for those who want to fly the flag as those who are a victim of racism.

If we allow the Confederate Flag to be on the license plates, then we need to allow the Mexican Flag too. Does that suit all you defenders of "history"? While we're at it, lets have France and Spain too.

Wow, we have African American history month. Spanish heritage month and so on. But, when it comes to anglo saxin(white) American heritage, we have very little. The Confederacy was/is part of our history and heritage and it seems that anytime we want to recognize this with a symbol such as,the flag we are fascist. This is total b.s. Why can't we be proud of our ancestors, part in American history?

what about texas history maybe people need to vote instead of allowing a few narrow minded few to think on our part

what about the souths war history i guess austin doesnt care one way or another
