Out of prison for two years, board says he's not yet fully rehabilitated

Lynn Mays used the state's rehabilitation program to get his license after spending 8 years in a Texas prison.

But...Texas Department of Licensing won't give him a license, claiming he's not yet fully rehabilitated. East Texans talk back on the board's decision and May's future.

Why does ANYONE need a license to cut hair?!?! These unfair occupational licensing laws only act as barriers to new entrants and are intended to limit competition. Any mutually voluntary exchange between consenting adults is none of the government's business.

This is ridiculous. There needs to be a way for people who have served their time to support themselves.

if the discrimination against non violent drug and property offenders does not stop and they are not given the oppertunity to change their lives the revolving door of texas prisons will not stop and their families will continue to pay the price that he has allready paid..

My son is in prison. He has been cutting hair for a quite a while. (A GOD given gift he has) Other inmates only want him to cut their hair. When I have been there to visit my son. some have showed me their haircuts and bragged on my son. Why not train him and others in a barber school in prison. That would include a licene, when they graduate the school and pass all test. Why not prepare them for life outside of prison? Thank you for caring.
