East Texans respond on whether it's a good idea for Texas.

Florida's Governor says he'll sign bill mandating welfare recipients in his state be tested for drugs.

Critics argue it will cost the state millions. Those in favor of the legislation say the move will keep drug addicts off the state's welfare roles.

Welfare recipients would be reimbursed for test if they pass. East Texans talk-back on the idea to our news partner: KTBB and host Garth Maier.

I have recently retired from working in the Substance Abuse Courts and I do not know who gave that figure of $35.00 per drug testing. I can only believe that you are including the wages of the tester, the building you are using to test in, etc, a random drug test can be done for as little as 10.00 dollars, if it shows a positive and the person chooses to challenge it then the cost of a blood draw is on that person and if it comes back negitive then the person will be reimbursed ..dwc

Wow this is great, How about Van Zandt county with alchol problems in county owned vehicles, Drunk etc? Elected maybe? total drunks overlooked, New county Vehicles? Can the county afford this type of people controlling tax payer money? Drugs may be involved? We need more than drug testing!

I agree with Ray,

The ACLU is going to be all over this one. How dare we the tax payer ask for accountability for where the money goes.

I'd love to see this go Nation wide, and go one or two steps further. Nothing gets my dandruf up, like being in a check out line at a grocery store and have a patron in front pay for groceries with a wellfare card, then bring out cash to buy beer and/or cigaretts. I think the drug test should include alchol and smoking.

The problem with this testing is why our state representatives don't require the same.
