One NH doctor wants kids banned from gridiron

Friday night high school football is a staple in the lives of many people across northeast Ohio. It's almost a rite of passage for some young teens. But one doctor is saying it's too dangerous and should be banned.

Dr. Paul Butler, a school board member in Dover, N.H. and former high school football player, wants kids banned from the gridiron because "it's too dangerous for children to be playing." A move that has sparked an uproar.

East Texans asked if they agree with the good doctor and talk-back to our news partner: KTBB and host Garth Maier.

There is a element of danger with anyrthing we do so to single out one thing is hard to except. We face danger evey step we take each day.Every car that you meet on the road my be your last.

Oooh! Let's ban drinking water, there's a risk of drowning from it! Let's ban walking. There's a real risk of twisted ankles and other injuries. Let's ban living because it has too much risk of injury.

As a mother that has had 2 boys that have played football all through high school. I do not believe that football is to dangerous. Football gives young men and women an opportunity to participate as a team.. Coming from a small town here in East Texas there is not alot to do here for kids and if we continue to take things away from them we are going to have more kids in trouble or on drugs. School sports help kids develop character, a good work out schedule, as well as tem work...

I have 2 sons also. One had his knee destroyed by a cheap shot in HS football. My other son has an injured back from it. My grandson just had ACL surgery on his knee from it. It is dangerous but it does help develop character and keeps them occupied and out of trouble. A lot of kids would lose interest in school and probably drop out of school without it. It has pros and cons as do most things. But I think the positive out weighs the negative. I am concerned about all the injuries though.
