Many Texas school districts use corporal punishment

Two recent "paddlings" by men educators on teenage girls has drawn fire from some parents. The school boards stood behind the educators.

We don't use corporal punishment on adult criminals. Why do we believe it's OK with kids? Solomon said, "Spare the rod, spoil the child." I prefer the word of Paul, "Do not provoke your children to anger." There are other ways to discipline. Schools for discipline problems are highly effective. Don't suspend kids, don't send them home, and don't paddle - make 'em study.

Actually the proverb more correctly says spare the rod and your child will grow to hate you.
