East Texans talk-back on controversial remarks on contraception

Some sponsors pressured into pulling their advertising from Rush Limbaugh's talk show, after comments he made on the topic of contraception last week.

East Texans talk-back to KTBB's Garth Maier on Rush's words and their meaning in what continues to be a topic of which the mainstream media won't let go.

Rush is as much of a journalist as a clown wearing a beanie and riding around on a tricycle in a circus ring. There are a lot of people who rely on him for news coverage and act like the words that emit or spew from his mouth are like Moses delivering the Ten Commandments. But he is just an entertainer. As far as the substantive topic of b/c, because so many women use it for various reasons, it is considered cost-effective to include it for free. If you have got a problem with it, don't take it

The rush uproar has hit at least one core note with one of the posters below...rattatooey is the only MAN who has posted who actually "got" what women are so disgusted about...rush was talking about every father's daughter who takes birth control...not always for contraception, but often for women's health issues...I applaud one man out of the six who understands what this was all about...people like rush, and many ET men, need to get real and value women!

The b/c provision is included as a preventative medicine, because it will save taxpayers money. In this way, it is akin to colonscopies and other preventative health measures. I get it that folks don't want to pay for other people's b/c, but then I wasn't crazy about paying for two wars and a huge bail-out for bankers.

Rush Limbaugh is an ignorant arrogant fool, and those who follow him faithfully are just the same. If that were my daughter that he called a prostitute and a slut I would be looking for a personal meeting with this drug taking moron.

I think Rush used a poor choice of words. He has done this before and I think sometimes he gets carried away and says things he shouldnt. However, i do agree with him. The tax payers should not have to pay for someones birth control, period.

Birth control (or hormones) is considered a preventative medicine. Because so many women take them for a variety of medical reasons, it was thought to save money in the long run by providing them for free under the new insurance reform. Another example of preventative medicine that is to be provided for free are colonoscopies. It is thought to be cost-effective because of the ability to detect and treat colon cancer early. I don't see any outrage or second-guessing for that.

I don't think we can equate colon cancer to pregnancy. And if this was purely an economic issue, then abortions would also be cost effective in the long term as would sterilization. Again, this is not about birth control. This is about the government use of force.

A free market is the most efficient way to ensure that the most people have their needs met. If we put equality over liberty we will have neither. If we strive first for liberty, we will have more equality than any other system.

Rush obviously has problems with women. He has been married and divorced numerous times. He was discovered taking hundreds of Viagra pills on a Carribean vacation. He has other drug addiction issues, as well. I doubt anyone on the right can understand this. He is at best an entertainer, but he is laughable as a news provider. He can say whatever he wants to, but his advertisers absolutely have the right to withdraw their sponsorship.

Duh!! He has never claimed to be a reporter. He's always said he's an entertainer being paid to voice his opinion. He has never claimed to be unbias. He uses truths that support his POV, not neccesarily the whole truth. Not like many in the mainstream media like Mike Wallace who is bias toward the left yet claims to be unbias, voicing an opinion guised as a news report.

So, foul-mouthed trashing other human beings isn't considered free speech? Does this mean you have to stop posting here?

I do agree with you that women have power and need no exercise it. I am all for women's rights and equality under the law. But I do worry that if women rely on government to provide something, then the government then has the power to deny it. I would be cautious using this approach to achieve a certain political outcome as it could backfire on us.

rush needs to go...freedom of speech is precious, but that freedom and the sacrifices of brave men and women around the world DO NOT cover rush's foul-mouthed trashing of another human being...remember...rush lied from start to finish about Ms. Fluke's testimony...and the repub candidates are scared to death of this un-American fool? Women do have power...the power of the pocketbook and the vote...be careful what you say, men...rush may just have won Pres. Obama a 2nd term and a Dem. Congress!

$3000.00 a year for birth control? Come on, who's lying? And she whats U.S. to pay for it. $3000.00, is she wanting us pay for birth control or favors. Though the video comment was a bit much. But then he uses obsurdity to show obsurdity. But then I doubt most on the left can understand it.
