Some healthcare workers fired for refusing flu shot

Some illinois nurses received pink slips for their refusal to get a flu vaccine. The hospital maintains the rule is for patient safety.

East Texans talk-back on whether a flu vaccine should be made mandatory while you're on the clock. They bend the ear of our news partner: KTBB and host Garth Maier.

If Illinois is at at-will employment state, then there is no problem with firing them for refusing to take the shot. They probably listened to Jenny McCarthy, playboy model and self-proclaimed vaccination expert, and refused to be vaccinated. In which case they should be terminated for utter stupidity.

Nurses, especially, should be first in line for flu shots...it's not bad enough that they may contract the flu, but the worst case scenario is that they could go to work ill, in the hours they are most contageous, and infect and jeopardize the health of patients already compromised by illness. Religious or philosophical beliefs aside, these women haven't a leg to stand on...their profession requires that they do no harm to those they serve...too bad they ruined their careers for one shot.
