Should preachers be allowed to endorse candidates in front of congregation?
Tyler — This Sunday, pastors across the country will challenge the IRS and it's code against the clergy from endorsing candidates.

Brother Will - how niave and simple can you get. DIVINELY APPOINTED - GOD SPEAKS TO THEM ON A PERSON LEVEL. Listen dimwit, God only speaaks through his Word in this age, and ministers are appointed by MEN in particular congregations. ADVICE: Read the BOOK, then you will know.
I think the devil has been talking to you !
If these preachers want to be treated like the rest of us when it comes to political expression, then they can be treated like the rest of us and pay their taxes. It's just like a preacher to demand special treatment!
Yes, I think it's fine for pastors to endorse political figures. Pastors are divinely appointed as
overseers of their membership. Because, God speaks to them on a personal level, their advice
is Godly given. God knows what is best for all.
Well, jp, unless all the teavangelical ultra-right religious repubs now live in caves, they have ample access to all sorts of information outside pastor endorsements...knowing I live in the mecca for ultra-conservatism and that the main source of right-wing tripe is faux news, beck, hannity, etc., it would seem reasonable that ministers in this area would also champion teabaggers and that their flock would, most likely and without question, never question these endorsements from the pulpit. .
We have to keep the playing field level. The left has been doing it for years. Clinton made about six political speeches from the pulpit. That's ok. But it just wouldn't be fair to let conservative candidates do the same. In fact we need to find out where they are speeking and make them illegal too! Of course exempt Dems, afterall we NEED to keep it fair.
You miss the point entirely! You say "Clinton made about six political speeches from the pulpit." But that was CLINTON making the speeches, NOT the pastors! Pastors should stay out of the fray. The Roman Catholic church has it right: do NOT tell people how to vote; let the people decide based on their own consciences and beliefs.
...and when ultra-right evangelical republican churches endorse political candidates this Sunday morning, I fervently hope the IRS is on their doorsteps Monday morning...do any of you folks remember SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE? Political churches should lose their tax exempt status the minute they endorse any candidate...period.
....that's right, the right wing pastors had better loose their tax status as long and the leftist pastors who endorse Obama had best not loose their's. It wouldn't be fair!!!
...and when Jerimiah Wright preaches the bible to Obama.
