Teachers are not paid for the summer vacation, they can choose to have a portion of their working months pay set aside for the summer. Most teachers in larger districts are required to have a masters degree. For the amount of education required, it is a low paying field. There is a huge difference in the type of students that attend private sector schools; behaviorally and socioeconomically. If public school teachers are earning more, I would consider it combat pay.
Teachers salaries and benefits are outrageous. They work a 5 day week, get 3 months off each year, and under their direction, the performance of US students has fallen below some 3rd world countries. Some years ago, we (USA) were #1 in the world for education excellence. Now we are about 25-26th. So where is the rationale for paying more to individuals who are responsible for the decline in academic performance. It's a mystery to me!
Never heard of a teacher who thought they were being paid enough..met a lot of teachers who were over-payed.
Are you kidding me? Teachers have never, ever been paid enough for the work they do! Pay football coaches what we pay teachers, or better yet, pay teachers what we pay football coaches. In this regard, our priorities are bassackwards!
They don't get paid nearly enough! You get what you pay for!
NO! I takes alot of schooling to even become a teacher. They could have put that same amount of time into a higher paying job. Also, we put the people most precious to us in their care - our children! I pay $90 a week for daycare for one of my children. If teachers got paid $90/week for each child in their class...you do the math, they would make a heck of alot more money than they do now and we would be getting more out of it than we do from daycare.
