Congressman Ron Paul: a constitutionalist, and that draws many admirers. But Paul's stance on defense and our troops in other countries and the congressman's views on legalizing some drugs, gets some voters looking elsewhere.

East Texans talk-back on Paul's politics wtih our news partner KTBB and host Garth Maier.

Dr. Ron Paul is not liberal or conservative - he is principled. His political philosophy is based on the principles of self-ownership, individual liberty, and limited government. He is not really even a republican, but is a libertarian. Libertarians are the only party that is consistent and puts principles over party politics. We don't use scare tactics to play on the irrational fear of others for our own political goals, like the R's and D's. Each stance Dr. Paul holds is based on reason.

Just wondering...if paul wants the ban on "pot" lifted, could one suspect that the good doctor did/does use the stuff himself? This old coot's run for POTUS is just a smoke screen intended to siphon off votes from one or the other front runners, to make it look like he's a real contender...he's not...and by all the rhetoric coming from the other three, this country would be going to hell in a handbasket if any one of them became president. So glad to see President Obama's approval numbers rise!

I do not consume alcohol, but I think prohibition was a bad idea. Bootlegging provided profits to organized crime. Likewise, the illegality of marijuana just means that those who DO remain in the black market make excess profits (police consider success driving the price up) that line their pockets and keep their enterprise in operation; meanwhile, the drugs that are on the market are less safe than if the market were out in the open. (Poor choices go from learning opportunities to death.)

snydergal, Fighting for one's right to choose doesn't mean you agree with every choice. I advocate freedom of speech - that doesn't mean I agree with hate-filled racism. I am for freedom of press but don't always agree with fox news or msnbc.

It seems that you are unable to see past rhetoric and bitterness long enough to discuss ideas and political philosophy. Instead, all I see is a implication that he is a drug user, then some age discrimination, all followed by shallow demagoguery.
