Could modern technology be to blame?
Tyler — Reading scores on the SAT for the high school class of 2012 have reached a four-decade low. The average reading score for the 2012 graduating class was 496, down 1 point from the previous year and 34 points since 1972.
Could modern technology be to blame for the downturn? East Texans talk back to our news partner: KTBB and host Garth Maier.

Show me a correlation to private schools and I'll retract my statement that integration is the cause.
The Junior High I went to in Detroit was about 40% black, 45% white, 10% arab. The skin color of the students made no difference in performance. What hurt students most was that we were in the midst of the height of social promotion, which mostly targeted minorities. So it isn't their skin color, it's the ACLU, LULAC, NAACP, Jesse Jacson, etc. not allowing them to perform.
Charles - don't show your obvious ignorance and equally obvious racism.LET'S GET REAL ABOUT THIS.WE ARE DOING AS BAD AS WE ARE BECAUSE TEACHERS HAVE ABANDONNED "DIRECT INSTRUCTION'. OUR STUDENTS NEED TO BE ACTIVELY ENGAGED FOR AT LEAST 90% OF EACH CLASS PERIOD. IN SOME OF THE SCHOOLS THAT I HAVE TAUGHT AT AND ALSO VISITED, ENGAGED TIME BY STUDENTS WAS BELOW 45% IN "MANY" CLASSES. LET'S STOP APPLAUDING OUR TEACHERS FOR THE GREAT JOB THEY ARE DOING, BECAUSE THEY DO "NOT". BOOO! TO ALL BAD TEACHERS
CHUCKIE...YOU ARE THE MOST VILE, DISGUSTING, UN-AMERICAN RACIST ON US SOIL...FOR GOD'S SAKE, FIND ANOTHER COUNTRY TO LIVE IN...MOVE AWAY, OUT, ALONE, DOWN STREAM, TO ANOTHER PLANET, DO ANYTHING TO RID THE REST OF US FROM HAVING TO READ ANYMORE OF YOUR TRIPE. OH, HOW WE WISH THAT TECHNOLOGY AND MONITORS ON THIS SITE WOULD DELETE YOU FROM NOW ON...BUT THESE MONITORS PROBABLY BELIEVE AS YOU DO...SO THEY ALLOW RACISTS TO RANT. JUST GO AWAY...SPARE ANYONE WITH A MODICUM OF BRAIN MATTER FROM...YOU!
Charles - you are a bigot. As such, you should keep your opinions to yourself, and examine the "real" reasons that minority kids do not perform as well as others. In many cases their parents do not speak proficient English, and in other cases minority parents work hard and long, but do not have the academic ability or the time to help their children. If you feel the way you do, why not mentor a struggling child. If you feel you cannot help in that way, please SHUT YOUR MOUTH!
