Tatum hires new police chief
Tatum, TX (Longview News-Journal) — After nearly a year and a half with no leader, the Tatum Police Department has a new chief.
Members of the Tatum City Council voted Monday to hire April Rains to run the department, Mayor Phil Cory confirmed Wednesday.
The Tatum Police Department has been the center of controversy since the start of 2012.
At the time, then-Police Chief Ron Martin and officer Jeffrey Brock resigned at a City Council meeting after the city probed allegations of wrongdoing, including that the officers ordered a woman drive while intoxicated.
After Martin’s departure, officer Tony Almengor was appointed acting police chief, but Almengor was placed on administrative leave and fired in December after complaints were received from city residents and officials.
