The Tyler Tea Party put on the "Tax Day Rally" today starting at 2.

Our very own Neal Barton served as Master of Ceremonies.

In addition to patriotic merchandise and musical entertainment from Krista Branch, speakers included Mike Church, Cynthia Kent, and congressman Louie Gohmert.

Among the topics passionately discussed - overspending, freedom of religion, the right to bear arms - and yes, even the controversial birth certificate issue was mentioned.

East Texan Kelly Burke is an unemployed veteran in attendance today.

He's having trouble going into business for himself.

"I think that, you know, everybody has pretty much the same idea that we're tired of the government overtaking us, overregulating us... I mean, have you tried opening up your own business? I mean, there's 150 regulations telling us what we can't do, instead of telling us what we can do," Burke said.

Who needs those lazy fire fighters anyway all they do is sit on their butts and draw big fat pay checks and they have a pension plan and I don't. I do not risk my life for the people all I do is sit behind a desk for 8 hours but that does not mean they should get a pension plan just because thet risk everything. THOSE SORRY GOVERNMENT WORKERS RISKING THEIR LIVES FOR US JUST FOR A PENSION ARE STUPID AND I DO NOT HAVE A PENSION SO WHY SHOULD THEY. I AM THE TEA PARTY

Neal, I really enjoyed hearing you speak at the rally and thought we had the best turn-out ever. Our Congressman, Louie Gohmert, delivered what I felt was the best analysis of the problems that lay ahead of us if we continue down the road of democrat socialism. I met many new people from all walks of life and compared to the last rally it was exciting to see that the Tea Party is growing in number and gaining in momentum. I left the rally confident of our success in the coming 2014 elections.
