Teacher turnover rate dips at Longview ISD
Longview, TX — Since implementing a mentoring program for new teachers four years ago, Longview ISD’s teacher turnover rate has decreased, according to the district’s report card issued by the state this month.
The district’s Academic Excellence Indicator System report shows Longview ISD’s teacher turnover rate at 16.6 percent compared with a rate that eclipsed 20 percent four years ago. Though still the highest rate among Gregg County schools and higher than the state’s average of 11.9 percent turnover, Longview is closing the gap between it and neighboring Pine Tree, which had a turnover rate of 14.5 percent on its 2010-11 report card.
A few miles west on U.S. 80, White Oak ISD had the lowest turnover rate among Gregg County and surrounding schools, losing 4.9 percent of its teaching staff in 2010-11.
