Texan gets 20 years, husband stabbed 193 times
HOUSTON (AP) — A Houston jury has reduced the penalty to 20 years in prison for a woman resentenced over the 2003 killing of her husband who was stabbed 193 times.
KTRK-TV is reporting that 34-year-old Susan Wright on Tuesday had five years shaved off her original 25-year sentence.
The case involves the slaying of her 34-year-old husband, Jeffrey, whose body was found buried in their yard.
Wright's initial murder conviction was not changed but the Texas Court of Appeals last year threw out her punishment. The appeals court agreed with Wright that her trial lawyers were deficient because they failed to present witness testimony that bolstered her claims of domestic abuse.
Prosecutors say Wright was lying and wanted her husband's insurance benefits.
