Houston—
At least fifteen thousand acres that would have been planted with rice along Texas coast will not be planted this year.
According to agriculture officials; thousands of acres in pasture land will probably not fully recover for at least two years, all because of Hurricane Ike.
The hurricane's devastation worsened by this drought.
The Houston Chronicle reports heavy rains would help flush salt from the soil.
