TYLER - Governor Rick Perry has requested that state agencies cut their spending by at least 5%.
This, in order to lower the state budget deficit before legislators meet again in January 2010.
Tom Mullins, director of the Tyler Economic Development Council says these cuts will directly affect East Texas.
Mullins says hospitals and colleges will feel the budget cuts the most because of record high student enrollment and some 27,000 jobs in health care here in town.
It will be several weeks until legislators vote on which programs to cut.
State officials say the budget deficit hasn't been this high since 2003 when it was at $10 billion.
