Some legislators want to look at adjusting the 22-student class-size limit for lower grades as Texas faces an
estimated $11 billion budget shortfall going into the 2011 session.

The Dallas Morning News reported Monday that state Sen. Dan Patrick of Houston says the limit is costing school districts "millions and millions of dollars" without any evidence that it boosts achievement.
Leaders of a special legislative committee, Sen. Florence Shapiro of Plano and Rep. Rob Eissler of The Woodlands, say class size standards will be scrutinized.

The requirement limiting classes in kindergarten through fourth grade to 22 pupils was enacted 25 years ago. A new class must be created, with an additional teacher, when a class in affected grade levels hits 23 or more students.

YEAH LET'S SPEND MILLIONS ON FOOTBALL STADIUMS AND BASKETBALL COURTS SO BIG DUMB BUBBA THAT CAN HIT NOTHING BUT NET FROM HALF COURT BUT CAN'T SPELL "BUBBA" OR CAN RUN THE FOOTBALL AND BUST 5 TACKLES,BUT CAN'T READ A PLAYBOOK CAN CONTINUE ON TO THE PROS AND GET PAID MILLIONS EVEN WHEN HE HAS A HANG-NAIL ON HIS LITTLE FINGER AND HAS TO SIT OUT FOR 6 WEEKS!!!! GREAT MINDS IN CONTROL OF BUDGETS IN TEXAS....YEAH RIGHT.....TEXAS IS WAY DOWN THERE ACADEMICALLY AND WHY SHOULD ANY COACH MAKE MILLIONS?

WHAT THE H*LL DO WE NEED ALL OF THIS DEAD WEIGHT FOR IN THE ADMINISTRATION? WE DO NOT NEED ALL OF THOSE ASSISTANTS TO EVERY POSITION EXCEPT TO THE TEACHER. CUT ADMINISTRATORS SALRIES BEFORE ACADEMICS. IS IT BECAUSE SOMEONE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO DO THEIR JOB OR JUST TOO LAZY AND THEY NEED SOMEWHERE TO DELEGATE THEIR JOB TO AND PLACE BLAME WHEN SOMETHING GOES WRONG

TEXAS ALREADY RANKS 48TH IN THE NATION WHEN IT COMES TO EDUCATION AND OTHER AREAS. TEXAS HAS THE HIGHEST HIGH SCHOOL DROP OUT RATE.
BUT WE HAVE GOT TO PAY OUR U.T. COACH A 5 MILLION DOLLAR A YEAR SALARY, A&M COACH 3MILLION A YEAR AND PUMP BILLIONS INTO ALL FOOT BALL PROGRAMS IN TEXAS. FOOT BALL IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN KNOWING HOW TO READ AND WRITE IN TEXAS.

In the place of increasing class size why not look at the number of trips that schools take during the year. The other day I heard of a school in the Tyler area that went all the way to Nacogdoches for a prom that lasted one hour. From sources that I know personally, this happens all of the time. Perhaps they could limit trips such as this and save without jeopardizing learning. Increasing class size limits teachers on being able to teach effectively.
