The Texas Ethics Commission accepted a complaint filed by Upshur County’s Republican Party chairman against the party’s secretary and is processing it as “Category One violation.”

According to the commission, Chairman Ken Ambrose submitted a complaint Dec. 27 claiming secretary Madaline Barber “misrepresented the true source of political advertising or a campaign communication, which is prohibited by section 255.004 of the Election Code.”

The complaint stems from a political ad Barber placed in the Gilmer newspaper in which the ad said it was paid for by the Republican Party. Ambrose said Precinct Chair Cynthia Ridgeway paid for the advertisement, not the party.

“Cynthia Ridgeway is a precinct chairman, but she is not the Republican Party,” Ambrose said.
