Texas girl's 1996 disappearance led to Amber Alert

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - It's been 15 years since a North Texas
girl disappeared while riding her bicycle in a tragedy that led to
creation of the Amber Alert child abduction alert system.
Amber Hagerman of Arlington was 9 years old.
Radio and television stations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area
joined forces to broadcast alerts in an effort to locate the child,
who was last seen alive on Jan. 13. 1996.
Her body was discovered several days later in a drainage ditch.
Arlington police are still trying to solve the killing.
Relatives and family friends of the victim planned to gather
Thursday night at the parking lot where Amber was last seen on her
bike.
Amber's mother, Donna Norris, says if the alert system saves one
child, that proves it works.
