Texas GOP Convention Kicks Off

Texas GOP Convention Kicks Off
Friday, June 6, 2014 - 2:56pm

The GOP kicked off its Texas state convention in Cowtown, and the speakers were fired up.

"I don't want to beat the Democrats, I want to bury them!" Texas Chairman of the Republican Party Steve Munisteri said as he address the crowd.

Meanwhile, Governor Rick Perry challenged Democrats and Battleground Texas, saying the state "will be their political burial ground!"

The fire didn't overshadow the focus of the first session which was on the longest tenured Governor in state history. Gov. Perry may be on his way out after 14 years in office, but it looks like the Texas GOP could be grooming someone to fill those boots, later down the road.
The potential candidate comes with a familiar name.

George P. Bush, nephew of former President George W. Bush, is currently a nominee for State Land Commissioner. This Bush got prime podium time, as he stepped into the spotlight, following Gov. Perry's address.
So, is it just a matter of time before another Bush moves into the Governor's Mansion?

"This is our story as a people. We don't complain about problems, we solve them. We don't accept limitations we transcend them," Bush said of the Texas spirit, in his speech.

Those in attendance had a big Texas thumbs up for George P.
"I think he did very well." Diane Fulton from Austin said.
"He used no notes, and spoke from the heart and hit some excellent points."

Well you know what they say, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
