Democrat Wendy Davis outraised Republican Greg Abbott in the last month in the Texas gubernatorial to race to succeed outgoing GOP Gov. Rick Perry.

Davis' campaign announced Monday that it raised $2.85 million between January 24 and February 22, compared to Abbott's reported $2.45 million over the same period.

Davis' campaign lags well behind Abbott in overall fundraising. The Republican Attorney General reported $29.98 million cash on hand, with 98% of donations from the latest report coming from Texas.

Davis, a state senator from Fort Worth, reported $11.3 million cash on hand since July. The sum is a combined figure of money raised by her campaign, her state office campaign and a political action committee, Battleground Texas, that backs her campaign.

Davis and Abbott are considered the leading candidates in their respective parties. The primary is March 4 and the general election is November 4.

Perry announced last year he would not seek re-election.
