Texas Honey Queen speaks at Gladewater public library
Gladewater — The reigning Texas Honey Queen and beekeeper has an answer as to why the honey bee population is declining.
Hayden Wolf, 18, of Big Sandy spoke to children Wednesday at Lee Public Library in Gladewater, and explained that there are several reasons for the declining honey bee population.
“They are experiencing loss of habitat with the cutting of forests and plants. They have also been affected by pests and diseases from the pests invading their hives but the biggest reason for the decline is due to the use of pesticides and insecticides,” she said.
Wolf said a large amount of pesticides and insecticides are used in the agriculture industry as well as in the home.
