Texas House Transportation chair warns of impending crisis

State Rep. Larry Phillips, and chairman of the House Transportation Committee, stopped at Crown Colony Country Club in Lufkin on Wednesday afternoon to warn community leaders of a potential transportation crisis.

At the same time that the state is seeing a population boom, Phillips said, transportation funds are drying up at a rate that will leave the state with only minimum maintenance and repair dollars by 2014.

“We are trying to educate people about the current situation we are facing in transportation funding,” Phillips said. “We have got to find a better way to fund transportation, and invest in transportation, or else we will be looking at a crisis on our roads.”
