AUSTIN — A bill forcing Texas companies to allow employees to keep guns in their locked cars is one step close to becoming law.
The state House approved the final version of the measure Thursday 130-11. Final Senate approval is still pending. It allows employees to keep any gun they are legally allowed to possess in their vehicles — even at work.
Under current law, employers may ban workers from bringing guns onto company property.
But the bill's sponsor, Republican state Rep. Tim Kleinschmidt, said many companies don't understand the sporting culture in Texas. He called it the "parking lot-only bill."
Critics questioned why the state should be allowed to tell companies whether to allow guns on their property. The bill makes employers immune from liability involving the firearms.

On the surface, the rollinson argument can make sense...but think about a disgruntled employee who is fired, goes out to his locked car, gets the gun, and returns to extract vengance against the person who fired him/her or anyone else in his/her line of sight...innocent people get killed. What good is a gun in a locked car going to do anyone when someone else beats them to it and blindsides the former boss or co-worker(s)? Guns don't kill people...angry, hurt and crazy people do, though!!
Wow, way to scare people with unreasonable information. Truth is that less than 1 percent of shootings are by legal gun owners committing a crime. It's the people who have the guns illegally who are the problem, and these laws don't affect them anyway.
If you have to work and park in a dangerous neighborhood, or you have to transit a dangerous area to get to work; this makes perfect sense. The definition of liberty is having the ability to defend yourself!!!
Those employers in dangerous areas should provide protection to their employees when they are entering and leaving the work site and until they are in their vehicle!
