Dallas, TX -- Brittany Hill says it is hard to be locked away in jail, unable to see her infant son and even worse she says is being accused of trying to sell him for cash.

"It is hurtful, it really is," Hill says.

The 26-year old mother was arrested at her apartment last week, after Dallas police found her son alone. She is charged with felony child abandonment, but police are investigating if she intended to do something more with her child.

Hill denies that was trying to sell her child when she took out a classified ad on Penny saver online, looking for an adoptive family for her baby. She claims that she was looking into adoption agencies and working with an attorney. The ad asks for $6500 in legal fees, which experts say in some circumstances is allowed under Texas law. The mother claims, when a woman from Florida contacted her about adopting the child, she wasn't trying to profit from her baby.

"Not only do I know that is illegal, but it is also stupid."

It was Megan Heichelbech who contacted Hill. She told CW33 News that it was supposed to be a legal adoption and that she did not intend to "buy" a child. The Florida woman, who says she has adopted before says she became concerned about the Texas adoption process and contacted authorities.

"It was after that when a detective called me," Heichelbech says.

Dallas police aren't commenting on the investigation, except to say it is continuing.

Hill says she has now changed her mind about the adoption and wants to keep her child, but first she will have to prove to CPS she can be a good mother. She says there will be a hearing next month.
