Texas Mom Speaks up for Troops

November 20, 2009 - 9:16pm

TYLER - One Marine's mother says she's had enough of what she calls a lack of support for troops, so she's created an organization called "Protect Our Warriors."

Vicky Biessener had been slowly losing excitement for the way troops were portrayed in general society, but it was one incident when Senator Barbara Boxer from California corrected Brigadier General Michael Walsh for calling her ma'am instead of Senator that really got her riled up.

P.O.W.'s goal is to become an organization that's known as a major advocate for soldiers' rights.

The group's founder says not enough is being done to support the people who go overseas in danger of never coming back.

You know this is so not uncommon. The unit will do their own welcome home ceremony and it will be mostly set up by soldiers left behind and our families of all of us here in Afghanistan. What I feel sorry for the most is our children and spouses who receive critizim for what we do as soldiers.

The unit stationed in Tyler, Texas (HHC 136th MP BN) is currently in Afghanistan and we have not had any support from our neighbors. I dont even think anyone from Tyler, except our families, knows we are over here. Talk abou tno support, cant even get it from our own community. I personally have written several news stations in Tyler and no responses from them.So I guess we will just go this whole deployment and then get home and maybe they will video our return...

support for our men and women overseas is waning. this military action is constantlt being down played. Our people need to know that they are not just cogs in the machine.
