Texas always had a reputation for oil production, but until recently, it was more history than fact.
That has been reversed thanks to new use of old techniques like fracturing or fracking.
There are 927 active oil rigs on land in Texas.
That’s 55% of all the land rigs in the United States.
And if you want to expand that internationally, roughly a quarter of the rigs in the world are drilling right here in Texas.
And in August, the Texas Railroad Commission approved permits for 1600 more.
In July, Texas produced over 52-million barrels of oil.
And in terms of total energy production, that doesn’t even include natural gas.
Texas holds 23% of the nation’s natural gas reserves.
The oil and gas industry alone accounts for 15% of Texas’ gross state income.
The US has now passed Russia and Saudi Arabia to become the number 1 energy producer in the world.
And in just a few years, Texas alone will rank in the top 7.
And if we broaden the definition, Texas leads the nation in wind powered electric generation and is number 5 in coal.

The United States will pass Saudi Arabia and Russia to become the world’s top oil and gas producer this year, according to a government report released Friday. October 4, 2013 at 4:22 pm by Simone Sebastian in featured, Production

I thought y'all said Obama was killing oil and gas production ? In FACT it is not just in Texas the United States of America is leading the WORLD in oil and gas production thanks to Obama. Obama has signed oil and gas permits for 65 million public acres for production, more than any other President. Can't have it both ways. Rick perry has nothing to do with producing oil it was here long before he was and he does not sign permits.

And with ZERO help form Obama or the Democrats,

And yet now the Dems want to run an super liberal for Governor of Texas, just as the Republican one has turned Texas into a megastate oil producer. Beware, the Dems, if they win, will turn Texas into a California if they can. That is a bankrupt state.

You might have said; "And this in spite of government". The oil and gas industry is one of America's most highly regulated industries both on state and federal levels. Democrats are bad with their "windfall profits" and EPA clowns, Republicans are bad with their ad valorem insured bonds. Both parties are government and both present obstacles to the industry. Wherever there is a dollar, government is there to grab all it can. OIl is energy, the creation of wealth, government is the redistributor.
