Texas panhandle wildfire 35% contained
(CNN) — A Texas Panhandle wildfire that has destroyed homes is 35% contained, officials said Monday.
The blaze has grown to more than 2,500 acres and has destroyed 131 structures, including homes and outhouses, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.
Troy Ducheneaux of the forest service said 2,100 people remain evacuated.
Crews have not yet made aerial drops, Ducheneaux told CNN on Monday morning.
Earlier, Danny Richards, coordinator for Hutchinson County Emergency Management, said a cold front was raising humidity and helping firefighting efforts.
The wildfire started late Sunday afternoon and was driven by strong, shifting winds. The cause has not been determined.
