A police chief in a small Texas town was shot and killed in the line of duty. Investigators say Elmendorf Police Chief Michael Pimentel was shot while making a traffic stop Saturday afternoon.

Evidence markers and yellow tape were put up as investigators worked to figure out exactly what led to a deadly traffic stop in south Bexar county.

"First I'd like to say that we offer our condolences and are saddened by the death of this fine law enforcement officer," said Chief Susan Pamerleau of Bexar County Sheriff's Office.

Elemendorf Police Chief Michael Pimentel was shot multiple times. He was airlifted to university hospital where he died.

"You know on even a quite peaceful day in south Texas in a small town, it can turn deadly in an instant," said Pamerleau.

The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Joshua Manuel Lopez. Lopez had an active misdemeanor warrant for graffiti. He will now be charged with the capital murder of a police officer.

'often dressed in black trench coats"...

Sounds like those columbine nutjobs that shot up the school.

Pity a good man, Chief Michael Pimentel, had to die at the hands of such a zero.

But folks, this is TEXAS, and capital murders usually end up on death row.
