Officials in Wichita Falls are finally set for the city's fireworks show on New Year's Eve after the punishing drought prevented the celebration on the Fourth of July and Labor Day.

A burn ban twice stopped the city's 22-minute show before rainfall of about 3 inches finally allowed officials to lift a burn ban about a month after the Labor Day cancellation.

Across the state, 116 counties had burn bans in place Friday, down from a record 251 in late August. Gov. Rick Perry's office has ordered fireworks bans in eight counties in West Texas, where the worst stage of drought persists.

Recent rain across most of North Texas and East Texas allowed New Year's revelers to buy and use fireworks.
